Toyota and Lexus are set to replace roughly 100,000 engines in certain 2022 and 2023 Tundra pickups and LX SUVs due to a recall issued in May over machining debris left in the engines during manufacturing.
In an updated statement on July 25, Toyota confirmed that the solution involves replacing the entire engine. The recall affects 102,092 vehicles — 98,568 Tundras and 3,524 LX600s. Only gas-powered models are impacted, leaving hybrid versions unaffected.
The Toyota Tundra recall and Lexus recall was prompted by 824 engine warranty claims, but no injuries have been reported. Toyota will begin contacting affected owners in late July. Concerned owners can check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website or Toyota’s recall page for more information.
