Toyota has issued a recall for 22 vehicle models due to a safety concern involving inaccurate load-carrying capacity labels. This issue could lead to drivers unknowingly overloading their vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall affects approximately 33,484 vehicles manufactured between September 2022 and July 2024.
The affected models include popular vehicles such as the 2024 Toyota 4Runner, 2023-2024 Toyota BZ4X, 2024 Toyota Corolla, and 2023-2024 Toyota Highlander, among others. The recall was officially announced on August 5, with customer notifications set to begin between September 16 and September 20.
Toyota will send affected vehicle owners a replacement load-carrying capacity modification label by mail, along with detailed instructions on how to apply it. Alternatively, owners can visit any Toyota dealership to have the label replaced free of charge.
This recall involving the Toyota load capacity label error follows a previous one related to Toyota and Lexus vehicles, where driver’s side curtain airbags may not deploy properly in a crash.
