Stellantis plans to lay off up to 2,450 U.S. factory workers later this year as it halts production of the Ram 1500 Classic at its Warren Truck Assembly Plant in Michigan.
The Stellantis layoff decision marks the end of the older model, which has served as an affordable option for entry-level buyers and fleet customers since a newer version of the Ram 1500 was introduced in 2018.
The plant, located near Detroit, also produces the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer, but no new vehicle has been announced to replace the Ram 1500 Classic, raising concerns among workers and the United Auto Workers union.
