Rivian (RIVN) has announced a temporary suspension of Electric Delivery Van (EDV) production at its Normal, IL plant due to a parts shortage.
This development impacts Rivian’s significant contract with Amazon, which ordered 100,000 EDVs in 2019. While production of Rivian’s R1S and R1T models remains unaffected, the delay in EDV manufacturing comes at a crucial time as the company is scaling up operations and recently completed major plant upgrades.
The pause in production highlights ongoing supply chain challenges as Rivian seeks to meet its production goals. Despite this Rivian EDV suspension, Rivian is working to resolve the issue and expects to recover the missed production.
The company said it remains on track to meet its annual production target of 57,000 vehicles and aims to increase output further with the introduction of the R2 model in 2026.
