Porsche has announced a recall of 200 vehicles due to a “manufacturing defect” that could lead to wheels detaching while driving.
The recall affects three of the automaker’s most popular models, including the iconic 911. Owners of the 992-generation 911, as well as select 718 and Panamera models, have been advised to immediately cease driving their vehicles.
The defect reportedly involves faulty central locking nuts that may break, failing to secure the wheel properly to the car’s frame. This malfunction can allow the wheel to loosen and potentially detach during motion, increasing at higher speeds, which significantly raises the risk of accidents.
The company has urgently requested that owners of the impacted vehicles refrain from driving until the necessary repairs are made. The affected cars in the Porsche recall, all manufactured between 2023 and 2024, were sold exclusively in Australia.
