Polestar has issued a safety recall for its first series-production model, the Polestar 1, due to a potential defect in the brake system. Affected vehicles may feature a loose pushrod screw joint connecting the brake booster to the brake pedal, potentially leading to brake pedal detachment. The issue could also result in unwanted noises, an unstable brake pedal, and a wider distance between the brake and accelerator pedals.
The recall impacts Polestar 1 units manufactured between December 13, 2019, and June 22, 2022, with VINs starting with the letter “L.” Polestar’s supplier, Continental Automotive Technologies, traced the issue to a misalignment during production between May and September 2019. Owners will be notified by mail beginning December 20, 2024, and dealers will inspect and, if necessary, adjust the torque of the pushrod screw joint.
Owners can check their vehicle’s status using Polestar’s website by entering the 17-character VIN. The Polestar 1 recall affects one of the few plug-in hybrid vehicles Polestar produced, as the brand transitions fully to electric models under the shared oversight of Geely and Volvo.
