Nyobolt, a U.K.-based battery technology firm, has introduced an electric vehicle prototype capable of charging from 10% to 80% in just under five minutes. This groundbreaking innovation adds 120 miles of range almost instantly, far surpassing the speediest EVs currently available.
The Nyobolt rapid charging technology is powered by a unique battery with patented carbon and metal oxide anode materials, low impedance cell design, and integrated power electronics and software control. This combination allows for ultra-fast charging without the usual degradation issues.
The company claims these batteries can endure over 4,000 charge cycles while maintaining more than 80% of their original capacity, ensuring long-term durability and performance.
Nyobolt has partnered with design and engineering firm Callum to create a lightweight sports car prototype showcasing this technology. Instead of a large battery for extended range, they opted for a compact 35 kWh pack, resulting in a nimble 2,756-pound vehicle that can cover 155 miles on a single charge.
If Nyobolt’s technology proves successful, it could revolutionize the EV market by reducing the need for massive battery packs and enabling quick charging times. This innovation could make electric vehicles more appealing to a broader range of consumers.
