John Deere is recalling about 164,700 compact utility tractors in the United States and Canada due to a potential brake failure that poses a crash hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The John Deere recall involves models 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R, which are green and yellow with “John Deere” printed on the hood. The front bell crank in the brake linkage of these tractors can fail, increasing the risk of an accident. The company has received reports of one hospitalization, two impact injuries, and minor property damage related to the issue.
The affected tractors were sold at John Deere dealers nationwide from November 2017 through July 2023, priced between $12,700 and $21,000. Consumers can check if their tractor is part of the recall by visiting www.deere.com, clicking on “Parts & Service,” and navigating to “Recall Information.” The serial number needed for verification is located on the front right side of the tractor’s frame near the engine.
