General Motors is recalling more than 18,000 commercial vehicles in the United States due to a brake line issue that could lead to brake failure, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Thursday.
The recall affects certain 2013-2019 models of Chevrolet Express Cutaway and GMC Savana Cutaway vans equipped with optional GM-provided body mounts.
According to the NHTSA, the brake lines in these vehicles may not have sufficient clearance from the body mounts. This insufficient clearance can cause damage to the brake lines, potentially resulting in a brake fluid leak and reducing braking performance, which increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and replace the brake lines as necessary, free of charge. Owners will receive notification letters with further instructions on the GM brake line defect. General Motors advises affected customers to contact their dealers or GM customer service for more information.
