Ford is issuing a recall for 90,736 vehicles due to a risk of engine failure linked to faulty intake valves. This recall impacts certain 2021-2022 models, including Ford’s Bronco, F-150, Explorer, Edge, and Lincoln’s Aviator and Nautilus. The largest group affected is the F-150, with 47,719 vehicles, followed by the Bronco and Explorer.
The issue stems from an investigation that began in January 2022 after multiple instances of engine failure were reported, particularly with Lincoln Aviator and Nautilus models equipped with the 2.7-liter or 3.0-liter EcoBoost engines.
The Ecoboost engine failure issue was identified as fractured intake valves causing severe engine damage. Ford found that the valve material used was below specification, although it has since been improved for models built after October 31, 2021.
Ford is aware of 811 warranty claims related to this defect as of August 9, 2024. The remedy includes a dealer inspection of affected vehicles to evaluate the cumulative number of engine cycles, with engine replacements planned for those that do not pass. Ford is also offering reimbursement for owners who paid for repairs before the recall announcement.
Vehicle owners will be notified starting October 7, with dealers set to receive information by September 30.
