The U.S. auto safety regulator has closed two investigations into Fisker’s Ocean SUVs after the electric vehicle startup issued recalls to address a door malfunction and a brake performance issue. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) had launched these probes earlier this year following complaints from owners.
In April, NHTSA opened a preliminary evaluation into 6,781 Fisker Ocean vehicles from the 2023 model year after reports that riders were unable to open the doors from either the interior or exterior handles.
Fisker, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, recalled certain Ocean models in June to address the problem. The Fisker Ocean recall involved inspecting all four doors and replacing the outer door handle if a fault was detected.
A separate investigation, opened in January, focused on 7,745 Ocean models after complaints of a partial loss of regenerative braking on low traction surfaces, which went unalerted to the driver. NHTSA reported being aware of six minor crashes and one injury linked to the brake issue. In addition to these recalls, Fisker also issued recalls in June for vehicles in North America and Europe due to faulty software and safety compliance issues.
