BMW announced on Wednesday a recall of more than 290,000 vehicles in North America to address faulty bolts that may cause the interior cargo rail to detach in the event of a rear-end collision.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the attachment bolts in the affected models could become damaged during a rear crash, potentially causing the cargo rail to detach and increase the risk of injury.
The BMW X3 recall affects the following models: 2018-2023 X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i, and X3 M vehicles.
BMW dealers will replace the defective bolts at no cost to the owners. Notification letters will be sent to vehicle owners on August 30.

Earlier this month, the automaker recalled over 394,000 vehicles in North America due to potentially explosive Takata airbag inflators.
