Ford Motor Co. has filed a patent for a system enabling cars to report speeding drivers to the police. The application, titled “Systems and Methods for Detecting Speeding Violations,” was published by the United States Patent and Trademark Office on July 18, 2024.
The Ford speeding tech would use vehicles to monitor each other’s speeds. If a car detects a nearby vehicle exceeding the speed limit, it could capture images and send a report with speed data directly to police via an Internet connection.
Ford suggests this technology could simplify speed enforcement and could be integrated into self-driving cars.
