An alarming new report from CARFAX reveals that an estimated one in five vehicles on U.S. roads have unresolved recalls, a 16% increase over the past two years.
This raises concerns over the safety of millions of vehicles, particularly those with critical issues like faulty brake systems, airbags, and seatbelts.
According to CARFAX, there are 58.1 million vehicles on the road with unresolved car recalls in the US, including more than 14 million with two or more unresolved issues.
Texas leads the nation with 1.6 million vehicles having unresolved recalls, followed by California (1.5 million), Florida (901,000), and other major states.
Despite these numbers, the report on unresolved car recalls in the US stresses that these recalls can typically be repaired at no cost to the vehicle owner, yet many remain unresolved. Automotive manufacturers, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and CARFAX are working together to raise awareness and help vehicle owners address these issues.
Recently, several major vehicle recalls have been issued, including over 20,000 Subaru vehicles for defective wheels, 295,000 Honda vehicles for engine stall issues, and over 80,000 Kia vehicles due to airbag concerns. The report highlights the importance of checking whether your vehicle is affected by an unresolved recall.
Drivers can check if their vehicle is under recall by visiting the NHTSA’s website and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to access up-to-date information on their vehicle’s recall status.
