Volkswagen is recalling more than 100,000 vehicles over concerns that the driver’s side front airbag inflator may explode, posing a severe injury or fatality risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) flagged the Volkswagen recall, affecting certain 2017-2019 VW Beetles and Beetle Convertibles, 2012-2014 Passats, 2017 Passat Wagons, and 2006-2007 Passat Sedans.
According to NHTSA, prolonged exposure to heat and humidity can lead to airbag inflator explosions, potentially sending sharp metal fragments toward the driver and passengers. Volkswagen will replace the driver’s side front airbag module at no cost to owners.
Vehicle owners can expect to receive notification letters from Volkswagen in late December.
