Lyft is teaming up with Mobileye, an ADAS pioneer owned by Intel, to bring autonomous vehicle technology to its rideshare network, targeting deployment across North America.
The collaboration aims to capitalize on Lyft’s vast user base, offering robotaxi services to its 40 million annual riders through Mobileye’s advanced autonomous systems.
Mobileye will equip Lyft’s partner fleet vehicles with its proprietary tech, enabling large-scale fleet operators and transportation providers to purchase AV-ready electric vehicles, such as the Hyundai IONIQ 5. This Lyft-Mobileye partnership supports the rideshare company’s ambitious goal to transition to a fully electric fleet by 2030.
David Risher, CEO of Lyft, emphasized the strategic alliance’s role in enhancing their fleet capabilities, stating it ensures a robust platform for fleet owners to effectively deploy autonomous vehicles. Mobileye’s CEO, Prof. Amnon Shashua, highlighted the collaboration’s potential to expand market reach and enhance the mobility service landscape through autonomous technology.
The deployment schedule for these Mobileye-equipped vehicles has yet to be announced, along with specific models that will feature the technology first.
