Toyota has issued a recall for 42,199 of its 2023 and 2024 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles due to a faulty brake actuator assembly that may reduce braking force and increase stopping distances.
The recall, as detailed in documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), targets a specific software error within the skid-control electronic control unit (ECU) which manages the vehicle’s brake systems.
The identified issue can lead to a loss of power brake assist when turning corners, presenting drivers with a harder brake pedal and diminished braking capacity. This fault is attributed to a brake actuator assembly supplied by Bosch, which is unique to the models in question and does not affect other U.S.-market Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
Toyota has committed to updating the skid-control ECU software at no cost to vehicle owners, with notification letters to be dispatched by November 19. Owners of the affected Corolla Cross Hybrid models can also visit the NHTSA recalls website to check if their vehicle is impacted.
