Jaguar is urging owners of approximately 3,000 I-Pace electric SUVs to park them outdoors and away from structures due to a risk of battery fires. The recall affects models from the 2019 model year, and while a permanent fix has not yet been developed, dealers will update the battery energy control computer to limit charging to 80% as a temporary solution.
The British automaker has issued three previous recalls for the same issue, which previously included diagnostic software updates. However, there have been three reported fires in the U.S. since those updates, according to documents released by U.S. safety regulators. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The batteries, produced by LG Energy Solution in Poland, are currently under investigation by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The agency began probing EV and hybrid battery defects in 2022, leading to recalls from several automakers, including General Motors and Hyundai.
