Mini has issued a recall for 12,535 electric Cooper SE hardtop coupes from model years 2020 through 2024 due to the risk of high-voltage battery short circuits.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, faults in the high-voltage battery or system could potentially cause a short circuit, which may lead to a fire, even when the vehicle is not in operation.
The company has reported at least two incidents related to this Mini electric Cooper recall, though no injuries have been recorded. To address the problem, Mini dealerships will apply a software patch that includes a diagnostic function to detect malfunctions in the high-voltage battery and discharge it below 30%, reducing the risk of fire. Recall repairs are free of charge.
While Mini is addressing this issue, it’s crucial for all vehicle owners to stay informed about potential recalls and ensure their cars are safe to drive.
