Ford Motor and Mazda have issued urgent advisories to drivers of certain vehicles still affected by faulty Takata airbags and inflators that could cause severe or fatal injuries.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has warned that these airbag inflators can explode, sending dangerous metal fragments flying toward the driver or passengers.
Ford is urging drivers with affected vehicles, including models like Ranger trucks, Mustang and GT sports cars, Fusion sedans, and certain SUVs like the Edge, to contact dealerships immediately for repairs. The recall impacts approximately 765,600 airbag inflators in Ford vehicles globally, with around 374,300 in the U.S.
The automaker has reportedly made over 121 million outreach attempts in the U.S. to alert customers about these recalls. This is part of a larger, decade-long effort involving over 100 million vehicles worldwide that were recalled due to faulty Takata airbags.
If your vehicle is affected by this recall, it’s crucial to follow the manufacturer’s instructions and get the airbags replaced as soon as possible.
