Police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who crashed into the back of a self-driving Waymo taxi, injuring three of the four passengers, Thursday night in downtown Los Angeles.

The Waymo crash happened around 10 p.m. near Grand Avenue and West Pico Boulevard while heavy rain was falling.

Andrew Townsend, one of the passengers, said that the group was hit from behind while riding in the vehicle, per KTLA. Three of his friends were transported to a local hospital, though their conditions remain unknown.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the Waymo fled the scene, crashing into two parked cars about a block away before abandoning the car and fleeing on foot. Authorities are actively searching for the suspect.
